In the summer of 2020 while relaxing on stand up paddle boards in the Prosser Reservoir near Lak Tahoe. CA,  our youngest son (16 at the time) looked at the towering drought induced banks of the lake, whilst starring up at the smoke filled sky and with a forlorn look in his eyes and asked, "When is someone going to fix this?  Dad, you know your generation and previous generations really screwed up the planet"   While not directly responsible for many of the issues that the planet faces, his conclusion was reasonable and directionally correct. 

From that day forward in my family and I started thinking and researching about how to solve some of these issues...........at the scale needed.  Now the vast majority of my career has been spent in healthcare service, healthcare investing, pharmaceuticals and information technology as the primary general manager of the business.  I have been almost exclusively focus on turning broken companies around and then selling them for a profit.   I use three mindset exercises to help develop solutions to complex problems.

1. Alien mindset:  I like to ask the question, If an alien showed up and was asked to fix this exact problem how would they go about solving the problem?  Legacy solutions and or legacy thinking typically don't solve the existing issue.  A fresh and new perspective is very valuable and can move towards a solution much more rapidly.

2. Do the Math:  Math is very important in problem solving.  Any complex problem has an underlying multivariable formula that needs to be well understood and each variable needs to measured to determine how to arrive at best in class solutions.

3. Don't look for a villain:  In complex problem solving there is usually a set of circumstances and decisions that led to the current problem.  It is easy to try and create the villain.  Honestly, find the villain is a pointless exercise. You should be focused on moving forward.  The history is just that, history.  The here and now and the future are infinitely more important.

Now in the summer of 2022, we seem to have three key problems.

1. The earth is getting hotter because we generate carbon and other by products while generating energy to go about our daily lives.  The atmosphere of the earth can't clear this carbon out fast enough to keep the earth from getting hotter. 

2. We have a lot more fires and they are larger and worse each year.

3. We have water in the wrong places.  We don't have enough water inland and we have too much in the ocean.

If we can fix these three problems, that would be great.  A lot of people have suggested some not so great suggestions.  

1. Do nothing these three problems aren't real.

2. Shut down all energy production and stop producing carbon.

3. Stop eating meat cause farming is bad.

4. Don't fly in airplanes

5. Ride bikes everywhere

While all of these solutions are trying to solve the three problems, they aren't practical.  Great intentions, but humans can't get behind them.  We know the problems are real.  We need energy to keep society moving, I am pretty sure the world isn't going to give up Bbq, Blimps are slow and people need to move goods and themselves so bikes just aren't going to cut it. 

So to really solve these problems, we need to find solutions that don't radically change our lives.  Impossible you to say to solve these problems without radical change.  We think you are wrong.  Purevann's missions is to solve these three problems while keeping the engines of humanity and commerce just humming along and not require any great sacrifice by any one group of people or part of our economy.
